Best Young Athlete in the Bay Area Competition and Scholarship Program

The non-profit South Bay Community Tennis Association, in conjunction with Eagle Fustar Tennis, Mountain View Tennis and Los Gatos Tennis Academy, is excited to announce that we will select eight young Bay Area athletes to receive scholarships* for an elite program called "Young Stars". We will award one $10,000 scholarship and seven $3,000 scholarships to give the recipients the opportunity to become the next American tennis stars.

Any child born in 2002 or 2003 is eligible to participate (no tennis experience required) and will compete with 300 young athletes for valuable scholarships and enormous bragging rights. Participants will undergo a series of strength, coordination, endurance and speed tests to vie for the "Best Young Athlete in the Bay Area" title. Participants will be judged against their peers of the same sex born in the same year.

Young Stars is an elite training program which incorporates equipment and courts designed to accelerate the development of younger athletes. The complete two-year program includes three series - Red, Orange, Green (see chart below for program details). Our program features a low player-to-coach ratio with a seasoned coaching staff that has experience at all levels – including touring with ATP/WTA professionals. Our highly professional and individualized approach to developing young athletes will build the best possible foundation toward becoming the next American tennis star. The $10,000 scholarship covers all three series (Red, Orange and Green) and the $3,000 scholarships cover the Red series. Young Stars begins in January 2011 and meets twice a week for an hour at Cuesta Tennis Center in Mountain View.

The "Best Young Athlete in the Bay Area" search is absolutely FREE, takes 2-3 hours for each participant, and will be held at Cuesta Tennis Center in Mountain View on Saturday, December 11th. Participation will be limited to the first 300 applicants. Participants will be assigned a start time between 10:30am and 2:30pm. Even if you are not interested in a scholarship, but want to see where your child ranks among other premier athletes, we encourage you come out for a great weekend of fun competition. No tennis racquet or experience required. Just bring your child's athletic ability and dazzle us!

*Value of scholarships is calculated as the cost of the training covered by the scholarships
